Roadside Breakdown? What to Do While You Wait for the Mechanic

BINTEK Dispatch Team · Aug 8, 2026

A safe roadside stop keeps a $400 fix from becoming a $4,000 tow — or a preventable accident. The steps in the first 10 minutes matter most.

When a truck goes down on the road, the next 10 minutes decide whether it's a minor repair or a major incident. Most roadside calls BINTEK runs could have been cheaper and safer with a few disciplined steps.

1. Get off the road and stay visible

Pull as far right as you can. Set triangles at the required distances. Hazard lights on. Don't try to limp a failing truck to the next exit if there's a safe place to stop now — every mile you drive a broken truck multiplies the damage.

2. Don't guess the failure

Describe what you saw and felt, not what you think it is. 'Loss of power on the grade, black smoke, temperature climbing' is more useful to a dispatcher than 'I think the turbo's bad.' Let the mechanic run the diagnosis — that's what the call is for.

3. Stay with the unit

Unless there's an immediate fire or traffic danger, stay with the truck. A mechanic can't work a truck that's been moved, and the tow you authorize because you walked away is usually the wrong call.

4. Have the basics ready

Unit number, location (route + mile marker or nearest cross street), and a callback number. That's it. The dispatcher builds the rest.

BINTEK dispatches mobile mechanics 8AM–10PM across Metro Atlanta and the Southeast — no towing needed for most breakdowns. Call 470-672-7433. Calls before 8AM or after 10PM are subject to an after-hours fee.
